About 4 years ago, I saw a web site promoting some guy, with a streaming video, that played the guitar in a way that the melody wasn't all that important. The really amazing thing was that he made all percussions by tapping the guitar, wharever

it wasnt like flamenco, pounding it with the ring finger or the thumb or anything like that, he pounded the guitar with his palm, with his fists, taked advantage of the clapping sound made when you do tapping, but so that it sounded "percutive", making percussion with both left and right hands

really good percussions, african-like and not "sporadic" like flamenco "golpeados", intended not to percuss and mark the rythm, but to florish the melody
these where all the way around, it sounded really cool

at the same time, it wasnt just percussions, like "drum guitar", there was also a really nice blues-rockin melody he did by tappin' , just legato, or sliding chords around

whats the name of this style ? i've been searching for tutorials in the net but found not 1, can anyone refer me on this please?

There's a ton on Acoustic players who use that style. Michael Hedges was the King of that stuff. Other players to check out are;Kaki King and Don Ross. Both are MONSTER players!!!

Do an Amazon search and you should come up with a few books,DVD's ect. I know Don Ross has some instructional stuff on his website, www.donross.com.

I saw Metallica live last summer in Indianapolis and their new bass player played a 2-3 minute solo like that. He just banged all over the bass and slid his fingers across the strings and stuff and it sounded really good. I also saw Billy Sheehan do it at the Steve Vai show I went to a month or so ago. I haven't really seen a lot of guitar players do it though. It sounds really cool though!

Yea, percussive bass styles are pretty common, but I have never seen a guitarist do the stuff mentioned, and I am very keen to try and learn.
