Hi,

I wish to buy a Gibson Sg.

But i don't know if it's better to buy an Epiphone G 400 or a gibson Sg special faded ?

Is there many differences between the Sg Standard and the Sg Special ?

Thank you for your help !

I would go for the Gibson special.
I have tried one and it is an awesome guitar.

It is also Usa made, and Gibson stuff is obviously better quality and consistancy than Epiphone(I dont know if the quality difference warrants the price difference, but atleast here in the Uk, the price difference between those two models is not too much and I think it is justified and still worth it to go for the Gibbo)

Gibson quality control is inexcusable. Do not buy one unless you can first try out the actual guitar you are going to buy.

HI , Save your money and buy the SG Standard ,better PU's and wood,
also the guitar setup is better on the standard, I had a faded Special yellow and spent 200 setting up and fret filing.. but also try it out before you buy and remember to play without a amp, to hear the wood tone,,

best,
Ken

Ok thank you,
I think I'll save my money to buy a Sg special, and I'll change the pickups with two classic 57'.

But you have to know: I'm frensh, and a gibson sg standard in France is about 2300 $ ( us dollars ), and a gibson sg standard secound hand (about the year 2000) is about 1600 $.

So I'll buy it in US or In Germany: 1600 $ for a new Sg std.

Thank you

I own a Standard and can say it's a great guitar, but I'm with Lordathestrings on playing before you buy.

Le duke, dont buy at those prices, just across the channel here in England, an Sg standard goes for about 750pounds(they did at the shop inwhich I worked) and specials cost just 500pounds.

Get a Custom Shop Eric Clapton Strat (or a '62 reissue!).... they're only like 1900 USD........ and better than any Gibson you will get for that price. In order to get the "excellence" that Gibson says it puts into it's guitars you have to shell out the 4000 USD that it wants for the highend models... Fender makes better guitars for less money.

PS... I know you probably want the SG becuase it's the style that you like... which is cool. I like them too... and if that's what you want, don't let someone like me convince you otherwise!!! haha It's your choice... you have to play the guitar... and if it breaks or sounds like hell... it's your money that bought it.
