rotaries are fun; i drove (abused) an RX8 we had in on trade and it's kind of weird compared to a traditional piston engine. the engine doesn't even start to come alive till you're past 5000 RPM and it redlines somewhere around 10; that's part of the reason it has that jet engine sound, just because of the huge number of RPM's they dish out. torque is somewhat lackluster but the thing just doesn't stop revving... just be careful downshifting, i'm sure that a downshift at 100mph to 2nd gear before entering a turn would just absolutely destroy the engine...

that's my dislike of them. i had a friend who built an FD RX7 turbo (big ass GT turbo of some sort with a monster BOV), and it hauled... handled like a dream too... but he blew the apex seals. the engines are VERY weak if they're driven hard, and they suck gas because of the higher RPM's (you often get lower gas mileage than you get out of a small block, in fact...) but the handling on the RX8 was killer; great turning abilities, and power slides are fun because the lower amounts of torque make it more manageable.

You have the same complaints as most people. Aren't 3rd gen RX-7's hot though?

Edit: So glad there's another petrolhead here.
