i love the way a good engine sounds. the best sounding engines (IMHO) are:
-Ferrari V12. you hear these a lot in the area I live in. nothing like it.
-Ferrari V8. you hear these a lot in the area I live in. nothing like it but a...
-VW 4.2 V8 (Touareg). i had a client who drove a 360 Modena buy a fully-loaded Touareg because he said the engine sounded closer to his Ferrari than anything else he'd ever driven that could haul his kids.
-GM Small Block V8 (305, 350, 389...). Classic. so mean sounding. i mean the exhaust note just has this authority to it when it's connected to the right exhaust.
-GM Big Block V8 (442, 454, 502...) unrefined but awesome.
-VW VR6. seriously. such a cool sound; that great inline 6 tone. sounds great in the 2.8 models and even better in the 3.2's (Golf R32, Touareg V6, Audi TT 3.2)
-Toyota/Lexus 4.2 V8: like a 350, but more refined.
-Nissan/Infiniti 3.5 VH35DE V6: brutal.
-Nissan 2.6 RB26DETT I6: great inline 6 tone PLUS twin turbos. souped up and with a set of GT45's... the sound of pure evil.
-Toyota 4AG 1.6l I4: simple and high-revving but pure and powerful
if you ever get next to a Chevy 2500 pickup, and it happens to have the monster 8.1 liter V8... uhh... yeah.
There we go!
That's more of what I want to hear.
Any experience with rotaries? (RX-7, RX-8...?) Their sound isn't 'mean' like a big piston engine. It's more... jet engine. Winding kind of sound. It's really neat. Heard the G35 coupe sounds really awesome.
