Ok, when I got my new guitar, I had to put it in the bed of a truck, 'cause there was no room in the cab. But there was also gas tanks in the bed, and they all fell over... so there was gas all over my guitar case! Other than buying a new case, what should I do to get the smell go away?!

Gas is a pretty icky liquid.

The vinyl and plastic coating and the thin woods used in guitar cases are all porous, they'll absorb liquids (including the stinky ones) very easily. Unless your case was waterproofed or rain-x'ed or something, you're probably going to be stuck with either buying a new case or wearing a closthespin over your nose to avoid the gas smell on it.

Ummmm... you might try a good dousing of Oxy-clean or something similar, but that's a long shot. :(
Everything is OK in the end.

There is a product called Simple green, that helps get rid of petroleum smells and stains. Gas however has probably disolved the glue that holds your case together. Don't put a good guitar in a funky case that may spill your ax on the ground. Sorry!!

Well since gas is nothing more than a mixture of volatile hydrocarbons, which are covalently orientated, and in order to dissolve the solution of gasoline in the guitar case you have to use another substance containing molecules which are also covalent in orientation…

I hope the case didn’t cost a lot of money. If it didn’t, I would say have a have some friends over for a big ol bonfire.

Take your gas soaked case and aet it a blaze! Then use your handy dandy search engine, go to musicians friend and invest in a hard case. Coffin cases are sweet, or a metal one. The left over residue in your case probably isn't to good for your guitar or strings. Next time you have to ride in cramped spaces, put your guitar between your legs..Unless you are driving, then MAKE room for your guitar. Whatever you do don't make it ride in the bed... I would make my friends ride in the bed of the truck before I put my guitar back there.
