Line6 PodXT Live Vs Boss GT8
I'm thinking of getting one of these so let's hear your opinions, thanks. I mostly play metal but quite a varied range of metal and I have a Marshall AVT100 combo.

I've got the PODxt bean, and I love it. I also used to run it in the effects loop of a Marshall AVT275, and it sounded great through it too. I can't vouch for the GT-8 though. I think Chuck gave a review of it in the Gear Review section though.

Short and simple...
Line6=great amp models
Boss=great effects
It depends on what you need.

I tested them both out at the store today and the Boss GT8 blows the Pod XT Live to bits!
The Pod I tested through a valve amp using a £2k Jem and nomatter what I tried it sounded harsh, thin and tinny. The GT8 however, I played through a £200 SS amp and it sounded full, beefy and rich just in the few presets I tried out. I probably played for an hour on the Pod and 10 mins on the GT8 because it was obvious from the first 10 seconds that the Boss was better.
Now, I know you might say that it takes time to find a good sound and I should give the Pod more of a chance but I couldn't get anything remotely good in an hour, whereas the Boss sounded good straight away so it could sound phenomenal after some deep tweaking.
I also liked the layout and use of the Boss better, there was much quicker access to everything and it seemed more logical. It also has better features imo with the dual channels and solo boost etc..

Thanks Evo, that is a question I have also been debating.
I am looking to buy one of the two, but could not quite make up my mind.
I quite liked the Pod xt Live, but for some reason it did sound thinner than it`s desktop version.
Thanks again for settling my wandering mind.

Yeah, you should definitely go try them both out for yourself as everybodys tatse and hearing is different. From what I could make out the GT8 is more for metal and rock than the Pod which seemed to have a million clean patches.

If your XT Live didn't sound right, you probably didn't hit the setup button to tell it what kind of rig you were running it into :( :(

I admit that the Boss has some cool features not available on the POD XT, like dual amps with different sounds and the switchability between the two with the footpedal, but overall, the POD XT, in my opinion is much easier to just click and go.... If you have 15 minutes between changes, then the BOSS is better.
Thanx to everyone for their opinions, I respect all that I read from users in the U.S. and England {Where I was born} :D

The XT used to sound thin until they released the upgrade patch last year. Since then, I think it blows away pretty much everything else out there for any kind of sound. Get the XT and the software update using the Line6 Monkey software. That will sort you out for years to come.
