I've been playing the guitar for about 8 years, but although i've developed quite a bit in my playing, I always find it hard to know how to warm up good before a gig, practice or even just a jam. Often I just play a few scales up and down. But I've found that I cant play any good until about 20-30 minutes after we´ve begun playing. Please help me if you have any good ideas on this..

Start practicing about 30 minutes before your shows and during the practice just play the songs your going to be preforming on stage.

I have two suggestions.

1. Make sure that the first few songs in your set list are ones that you can play fairly easily. That way you will ease your playing into the gig.

2. Your gigging standard may not quite reach that of your general playing due to performance anxiety. Make allowances for this in your set list.
