i like classic and hard rock
i hate, rap, dico, r&b, hip hop, and i really dont care too much for country
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

I like to think I can find value out of any genre, but my favorites:

Hard rock- Zeppelin, Ozzy, GNR, Van Halen, etc...
Classic Rock- not that much really, but definatly Beatles and Stones, maybe some Dead
Blues- well, all of it really
80s shred- Satriani, Vai, some Malmsteen
Classical- An incredibly satisfying form of music to play, but I prefer:
Flamenco- and most of all:
Celtic- I love this type of music. It's the most serene and beautifull form I can think of, it begs to be played in the middle of the forest or by a riverside or somethin'.

I appreciate any genre that I can learn new styles and get new ideas from. I don't like country, pop, or rap at all, but you can learn new rhythms and expand your playing potential and versatility by listening to these.

That'll help you get away from the cliche rock/blues crap that everyone plays.

Yo you just can't hate one genre of music, you gotta learn how to pick out the good and the bad. Just because they're in a certain genre doesn't mean that everything is the same. It's not right just hate everything, i'm sure you haven't heard all the disco, rap, or country, so i think it is rather bogus to condemn a whole genre. If the way you guys think were so that would mean if i hated one rock band i'd automatically hate them em all. Zep and Zepo i wanna see you bust a fresh free-style, and tell me how easy that is.

Blues - King (all three) Cray, Hooker, Keb Mo' Taj Mahal but SRV on top
Country - Dwight Yoakam, Gary Allen, Chet Atkins
Rock - Beatles, Stones, Berry, Elvis
Plus others, Stray Cats, Johnny Diesel/Mark Lizotte, Chris Whitley

Realistically it's gotta be anything that's not manufactured completely in a studio and not made solely as an image kind of thing (can anyone say Stock, Aitken, Waterman, Ricky Martin, Britney Spears)

We all know what real music is, whatever style, or you wouldn't be learning/playing the guitar, you'd be off doing your hair and lip-synching to something from the Backdoor Boys.

"I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it. Floor it. That's technical talk" SRV

Yeah small-letters boy I take your point. I might of been a little rash saying I hated all rap and country music. Im saying on the whole I dont like it as in I dont like most of it. In rap I do like some stuff like Run DMC(although Ill never forgive them for starting the whole rap/rock thing, goddamn it I hate that fathead redcap ugly piece of **** - I think you know who Im talkin about) and I like some country but you have to admit some of this country stuff is really pushing it. How many Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers albums are there now. And I did state that Im a Bee Gees fan who morealess pioneered disco so dont run me over with your harley or anything.

I like older rap hip/hop. My favorite was 2pac. But now you turn on MTV and are barraged with ****ty rap and hip hop and black R&B that's so far from what it originally was it's disgusting. There isn't any honest rap on MTV anymore, if there ever was. They just picked up the newest wave and began mass producing "rap" artists. Put them in a bouncing car, add some girls in bikinis behind them, have them wearing ridiculously expensive clothing that no rapper out of the ghetto could afford, and boom you have a top of the charts rap video.

True, Most of the good rappers don't make videos or seldom do. It's mostly all this new southern rap like from lousianna, 'lanta, and what not that i hate. I like the wu-tang clan and dre and snoop(the chronic is one and always will be one of the most influential rap albums of all-time). i don't like how rappers get a bad rap for the women thing when cats like van halen, motley crue, and poison were doing that in there videos and everything was fine and dandy when the rappers of today will still in diapers or just learning how to use the potty. Damn if i had the money they had, heck yeah i'd have some raw cars too, just like everybody would. I mean you can always learn from something no matter what style. basically is the message i'm tryng to put across :)

I love disco. All of it. I don't really listen to anything with guitars in it unless I'm listening to Disco. Well, I've got the Disco fever now! See you guys on the dance floor. Woohoo!!!

Metal
Jazz (pretty much all styles)

Polka (ha! you laugh)

I hate
country (although I think Chet Atkins plays beautifully)
disco (although there was a disco album from the 70s by Santa Esmeralda with some great spanish-flavored guitars on it that I liked)
