Paradise City
I need help with the main riff from Paradise City. If I try to play all the notes as power chords, it ends up sounding all mashed together. If I play them as individual notes, though, it doesn't sound nearly as good. Should I be working on speeding up chord playing (and if so, how) or is the song not meant to be played that way?

I know what you mean.
Remember Slash doesnt play that riff as chords when he plays it live. And on the record its double tracked with him and izzy playing it.
I doubt it was recorded as a chord riff, I think they just recorded different tracks of it in the various positions.
Its not easy to play as chords but keep practicing. I remember I found For Whom the Bell Tolls difficult, that has a fast chordy riff at the begining, but it becomes second nature after time.

Excellent replies... thanks. I think I've got it now. Btw, Axl_Rose, what do they play when they do it live if not power chords?

Gilby/izzy and Slash just play that single note riff together when they play live. GnR also have keyboards on virtually every song too.
