If you are good enough to get paid just starting out, more power to you. We played for free or tips for almost a year. Your pay is mostly determined where you play. In my area here in the land of enchantment. you can make from $75 to $100 playin in bars if it is a well attended type of place. This is for a well established band with somewhat of a following. Private parties can sometimes pay lots more. Festivals don't pay that well but it's a great way to establish yourself. If you are serious about playing; agents are worth their 15% if they can at least keep you busy on weekends. Playing music for a living is very hard and not as much fun as you might think.
