Question for fans of Vince Gill

I've been playing guitar for many years now but I'm new to this site. I'm more of a classic rock (Rolling Stones) type of guitar player, but I've always admired the Nashville style, especially Vince Gill. Can anyone give me tips or techniques on beginning to play like him (no, I won't lock me and my guitar in a room for 10 years or sell my soul to the Devil). I'm just trying to get a reference point to understanding this style; tunings, picking, scales etc.. I'm glad I found this place. Thanks in advance.
