Ok, So I sit down with a friend the other day to play a little and it became apparent real quick that my timing SUCKS!!!!!! How do I practice my timing while strumming different chords? I put timing excercise into the search box of this site but got a bunch of rock licks. I have a metronome on my computer but I'm not sure where to start.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Metranome really helps, just set it to a certain tempo then go along with it
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead.

Rock stars ... is there anything they don't know?

play chromatic scales with it, play for notes per click. Start off slow like at 40 and work your way up, increasing 8 to 10 beats each time. You gotta work ssssssssssllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwww.... With time, you'll be able to stay on tempo better. Or when you learn songs, just play along with the metronome like spiritintheskysaid. OTher than that, just practice it everyday. AFter a while you won't need it as much, cause you'll find that you can keep the tempo without having to haer a click.
Practice 8 hours a day and God Bless you.
