gotta find my way

gday, im just starting out and i dont wanna just look cool by learning a couple a songs like some people, i wanna learn all the foundies of guitar playing so i can jam along. Im at square 1 now folks i dunno nothing , wot do u suggest?
i can play basic riffs smoke on the water n stuff, i want consistant picking and speed in my hands.

All I can say is that, (and this isn't a blatant advertisement)... sign up for bandwidth access at Guitar Tricks for a month or so (hell, it's only $5)... and give some of the Guitar Tricks instructors a try. You'll learn massive amounts of tricks, scales, theory and advice that you just won't get elsewhere and it beats the hell out of paying for monthly lessons at music stores who's sole purpose seems to be to teach people the basic 'mary had a little lamb' riffs in return for a monthly, overrated charge.

I would say that you probabily need to start off by learning about the 4/4 time signature. Also strumming patterens, and open string chords. This stuff can be kind of boring and tedious but will pay off in the long run.

Before learning those three things you need to know: what a fret is, how to correctly fret a string, what a pick is, how to hold a pick, and sitting position.

Try and find other guitarist to jam with, and reward yourself with a beery night out watching a live band
