Never to old to learn?

I bought my own electric whiule underway in Malaysia and am praticing the chromatic scale to get comortable.

I am as my tagline says. Is there a way to overcome this?

I want to set a good example for my 11 year old daughter who seems to be having the same problem ( her teacher says she lacks the rythm but can do the fingering), but desperatley wants to learn.

Does anybody have exercises or ideas on how to work through this?

Like me, if it is playing (radio/cd) the words come back and the melody, but once its not, all is gone. Though, she is a little better that. Not me though LOL!

The only way to get better is to not give up. Even Eddie Van Halen started with the basics. Most of all, enjoy it.

Wright, I'm 51 and been playin' acoustic for 30 yrs. I just bought a Strat last march and decided to learn electric lead blues ( out of the blue). I have no special training, not gifted and can't read tabs or music. I'm also not all that bright. But if ya keep on pluggin' it will come. Listen to Jam tracks, burn the beat and style you want in your head, for get your inhibitions and when it Quacks learn from it. Most everything I learn comes from makin' mistakes. Play with her and laugh with her and learn with her. You'll both be the better for it. Friz

Too old to learn?

Talent helps a lot, but hard work is what makes things happen. It's important to enjoy what you're doing. Then it doesn't feel like work. It's something you want to do.[/font]

Yep, enjoying it and (even more important) not giving up is what makes the difference.

Sometimes finding a good teacher can help. Half a dozen lessons can help you no end.
