I was wondering if any one had any tricks for harmonizing a melody with my song. I've written the music but my theory is pretty sad so I am having trouble with a melody for the lyrics. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Melodic ideas come from listening to copious amounts of music. And I mean COPIOUS. Grab as many genres as you can off the shelves, classical of all periods is HIGHLY recommended, and just concentrate on the melodic ideas. Melodies should be catchy enough to hook your audience, but not so contrived as to annoy them. Remember, in an key, the fifth is the strongest cadence other than the I. For example, you might end a phrase in Am with "E" (the V) and then end the next phrase with "A" (the I). I'd go further in depth, but a complete explanation of scalar degrees can be found in the music theory section if you use the search feature.
