Yeah full volume on the guitar and full volume on pre amp { distorton channel}
I tend to hold the pick with finger and thumb - the edge of the pick up against the second finger - somehow as i pick, the fleshy first knuckle of the second finger catches the string producing a harmonic.
A mate of mine uses the nail of the second finger
Works well combined with a left hand vibrato
