I never learned how to pick the guage for strings. I have a Fender acoustic guitar that needs new strings, and I have no idea which ones to get or which guage to get. HELP! I have become pretty good with the guitar, but there are many other things I dont know.

I'd start with medium gauge 20/20 bronze strings. If they are to bright move to phosphobronze and if you think you would like thinner go to lights.

Something else to consider.....Heavier gauge strings offer more tone, but the tension is higher so it takes a more pressure to fret a note. Lighter guage strings are better for beginner's b/c they are easier to fret, bend, etc.....I agree with Dr_Simon, just go with a medium guage set and experiment from there....

Whhooo hoooo, my first post as a paying member....
