What is hybrid picking?
Is it when you don't do all alternate picking, but like 2 upstrokes then 3 downstrokes and then 1 upstroke?

yes, hybrid picking is using your pick and fingers at the same time....it's like the beatles "blackbird" except you use a pick...a good song to use for hybrid picking is three libras-perfect circle :)

Imagine that. I've never heard of such a technique. And go figure that I do just that out of habit.

YEah hybrid picking and economy picking are the same exact thing. :) The way Pony One explained it was absoulutely correct. Its basiccally always picking in the direction of the next string you play regardless of the last pick stroke direction. Its also used to play sweep arrpegios although thats more often called sweep picking. Personnaly I think strict alternate picking flows far better once your used to it-- and you'll never have to think about your next pickstroke in an improvised run. -- And the thing rory gallgher does isn't hybrid pickin g its called chicken pickin'

No its not i can't hybrid pick i'am looking for some examples of it. But I know for a fact hybrid picking is using your pick and your fingers. By picking the the top Strings the strings and plucking the bottom the strings. I just found this on a website to stop all the uncertainty about it :p

(http://www.guitarnoise.com/article.php?id=406) A quote of that!!!!!
Hybrid Picking works equally well for both rhythm and lead playing. In rhythm playing the pick strikes bass notes while the fingers pluck higher strings in a piano like fashion (i.e. striking the notes of the chord together as opposed to in sequence as in a strum). In lead playing, rapid-fire licks can be executed across wide intervals, as the pick and fingers strike different strings, nanoseconds apart.
Jk
Why doesn't my amp go up to 11, :(

Rory Gallagher uses hybrid picking which IS useing ur pick and fingers, chicken picking is using ur pick and fingers also but like the claw hammer tech it has more of a rhythm feel behind it.. a good ex of chicking picking can be found in Direstraits song Sultans of swing at the end of solo 2..
