Does anyone here use the Jam room's backing tracks? My current computer has no sound card, so I cant hear them.
As far as backing tracks, every learning muscian should use them. They are a fun way to practice and learn. For you Blues Blues/Rock guitarists, check out my site:

Although the site is up, I have been unable to update it for a couple of weeks.

Let me know what you think!

I've used the Jam room a few times, not too long though. It's pretty cool, especially if you're just sitting home with no one else to jam with. It is good way to practise, especially a good way to put your creativity to use.

Well, I was going to say what a great site you have there, but I needed to sign up.

Then it says It doesn't accept free email addresses, so then i switch to my AOL Email.
Same problem.
AOL Isn't free

I'm sure it's a great site, but could you please allow free email addresses??!?

It's probably got to do with spam issues as far as yahoo, hotmail etc are concerned.
Right now, just because of being an instructor on this site I receive about 3000 spams per day in my junk mail box and it increases by about 1000 every year. There's no way to avoid it, so for me personally, I just block all email coming from those sites so I don't get as much spam.

For AOL, it's them that's at fault. Our members can opt-in to receive a monthly newsletter. And even though it's been requested by the user, AOL still interprets the newsletter as spam and blocks our site so we can't get through to you.
So you never get the registration info.

Sometimes they're called Karaoke, although that term is usually reserved for singers. Same thing though... backing tracks that have been redone by other musicians to come close to the originals.
If you have usenet, you can get a lot of real instrumental versions from places like alt.binaries.mp3.bootleg etc...
I got a ton of Queen, Van Halen, ELO stuff where somebody's gone back into the studio, removed the vocals and done an instrumental version.
Lot's of Beatles stuff too. There's probably more recent stuff but you'd have to request it & see what happens.

You can also use MIDI files for backup. A lot of them are crap but occasionally you'll find a MIDI version of a tune that's actually better than the original.
Again.. usenet's your best bet. alt.binaries.midi etc..
Otherwise you'll have to buy them cause of copyright issues.

I'm sure by now somebody has come up with CD's you can buy specifically aimed at guitar players with backing tracks on the too. Just check the various music publishers & stores.

Oh yeah... you can also get Band-In-A-Box. Kinda cheesy sounding but good for practice.

It'd be nice if somebody else could contribute backing tracks to the Jam Room. It's been ages since anything new was added.
All you need to do is about 8 bars of backing tracks... drums/bass & maybe keys, make a loop out of it and then convert it to a flash swf file.

By jam room you are referring to the jam station here on the site right?
Just making sure.
If so I do plan on using it.
