Ditto on that. Just listen to every style possible, jazz, rock, country, bluegrass, even rap. Copy what you hear, learn it on guitar. Soon you'll start developing your own style. One band I like that's out there is The Mars Volta, their music is just so weird, so different from many bands out there. They're defenitaly my friend band of today's music. But yeah, listen to everything possible.
