I'm sorta new to the site well not really but i just remembered my usr/pass, and i have a question. When i play guitar(i've been playing for about 2.5 years now) i run into a problem i'll be playing a song and when i nail a part and i notice it in my head i start to screw it up and have to start over at the beggining like i'm just learning the song again is there any way to get over this problem?

Thanx

Welcome bud!

Yea I know what you mean, its all about your cautious and being nervious and tense. This is why I always stand up, put the volume loud, and jam out. This way, you will feel really relaxed and smooth. Dont think too much about messing up when you play. Thats probually the only adivce I can give you.

It is better to learn a song correctly all the way through SLOWLY
than the first part great, second part sloppy, and the third part ok.

Practice you songs in sections. Play the verse slowly, over and over, and get up to speed PERFECTLY before moving on to the chorus. That accomplished, you can then move on to the chorus. Slowly at first, speeding up until at speed and perfect. Then move on.

If you learn a mistake into the song you will NEVER correct it, until you start over and re-learn it from the beginning SLOWLY.

All correct. Repitition will solve your problems but don't work it too hard though. Practice a segment for 10-15 minutes, then play something else and come back to it later.

Sometimes I find the longer I stay on a segment, the worse it gets. The fingers need a little break by doing some other movements at different speeds. Also, do some cool down segments before ending a practice session. Maybe something slow and easy that you know well. Helps prevent cramps and tendon pulls. Kinda like walking the horse after a hard ride.

I've had the same problem... Well still have it...
But what I like to do is play the song allong with the original...
Problem is you might forget a part and have to pause, and rewind etc...
So I myself just downloaded the powertab editor, downloaded the song at powertabs.net, turn it on, look at the screen what I have to play, and play allong with it :D
Screw up? No problem, stop the song, go to what ever part you want, press the play button, viola, it starts at the part you want.

I just play allong untill I get it right about 5 times, then stop for the day, the next day I try again, and I can still play it right.

Also, like said above, learn it in peaces, so you can just stick em together :D

Yea just like evereyone else said.Relax, when you get to that part where you screw dont think of it as the part where you screw up, think of it just another part that you enjoy playing.
