The spider II's are supposed to be some pretty good amps, but I don't have any personal experience with them. A few questions though...

How much are you willing to spend on an amp?
How big of an amp do you want, 1x12, 2x12, head & cab?
Do you want a tube amp or solid state amp?
Do you only want to use the amps distortion/overdrive, or do you want to use a distortion pedal infront of the amp?

A couple tube amps that come to mind would be...

Peavey Classic 30 which is a 30 watt 1x12 tube amp. This would probably need an overdrive pedal infront of it to get good metal tones, but it's possible on it's own.

Peavey Triple XXX 1x12 tube combo. I have the head, and with some new preamp tubes, this baby can pull off a wide variety of tones

Traynor YCV40 1x12 tube combo. These are supposed to be excelent for the price.

Carvin Vintage 16 or 112 Nomad. No experience with these, but the hear say if pretty good

Those are all that come to mind right now, but if you answere the above questions, we might can narrow it down a bit.

Well if you were looking at the spider II line, then I assume your in the $300-$500 dollar range.

The Spiders will give you some great metal tones for the money, but you might want something with a line out so you can hook up to a 4x12 cab if you want.

To me,the spiders seem like toy's.Not sure why.

Tube is definitley the way to go or even hybrid.Take a look into peavey or carvin for good bang for your buck.

If you MUST have a halfstack then I can fully recommend an SX series stack.

Here at http://carvin.com/products/group.php?CID=SX

I had the SX-200 stack(looks like they are sold out) and it had an incredible sound for the money(I had a Boss MT-2 running the clean channel with a Boss NS-2 in the fx loop)

The best stack in the price range(forget crate, randall or marshalls cheap stuff)

Also, the cabinet is WAY better than the behringers...AWSOME bass and mids.

Check out an ADA MP-1 preamp with a Carvin Solid Sate power amp. You can get those for about $450. Then pick up a cabinet (I highly recommend the Carvin Legacy...Behringer cabs suck....). A couple of cheap stomp boxes for like, reverb or delay or chorus, and you will have a killer 80's sound..

I do agree with Chuck...the SX is a super buy for the $$$, and smokes Behringer (crap....that is why it is so cheap)

I just got a SpiderII this Christmas and have been playing for four years. Its a 75 watt amp for 300 bucks. Probually the BEST amp for its price. The sound range is incredible.
