I got a set of the EMG 81/85 and I'm having some trouble with the wiring. After some research, I found out that this set was purposely made for guitars such as Les Pauls and other guitars that have the 3 way pickup switch. But silly me :o , I have the Ibanez RG270 that has the 5 way pickup switch. Does anybody know how to wire the set to a 5 way pickup switch? :( Thanks.

Have you tried the EMG website, I'm just taking a wild guess that you are not the first one to head down that road, try EMG's tech support they should know better than anyone....................

Yeah. I tried contacting them. They told me that I gotta replace the pickup switch...which I can't. I went to another forum the other day and someone has the same problem as me. I tried contacting him but he never replied..

I take it that you are wanting to use the EMGs in combination with a passive pick-up and thats why you are set on hanging on to the 5 way switch?????

If that's possible since the only passive pick-up is the single coil one in the middle. The reason why I'm sticking with the 5 way switch is because I don't want to go through all the hole drilling for the 3 way switch.....

I took a look at the website wiring info and looks pretty straight forward to me, braided gets soldered to the ground and the white wire goes to the switch in place of the old p/u wiring, I don't see why their would be a problem wiring to a 5 way switch, exactly what kind of problem are you having?........

The problem is that when I hook it up, the pick-ups doesn't work. But when I have the jack slightly out of the outlet, it works perfectly. So..I'm not sure what the real problem is... I'm thinking it might be the wiring.

Are you using the same jack that came in your guitar? You are supposed to replace it with a stereo jack, go check out the EMG wiring diagrams again....
