Call me stupid, but I have books on scales, which to me is all greek to me. They show positions (I, II, III), and that's great, but it doesn't say how to do it. What I would like to know is, 1, 2, 3, 4, (shift) 2,3,4, kinda stuff.... I've pentatonic'ed myself to death, and I want to add more variety. I was watching a Live Satriani concert, and I was blown away...
Anybody have any suggestions?

I am not sure if I understand fully, but here I go anyway.
I think you are suppose to play the I position and then finish that and shift to II position and so on. All scale books I have seen just want you follow the notes.

I can't help it. When I get an idea that excites me it's as if I can't breath unless I make it real.
