So yes.. I think they are better.

If you invented an amazing innovitive invention.. (bare with me on this!).. then I copied it... but made one subtle change to it that people prefered. Then Im sorry but no matter how important you were in the process of its creation, my newer version is gona be better.

Oasis are a great band!! They sing about things I can relate to. They have two great singers. And thanks to cleverly, or cheekily, studying their influences, the beatles, stone roses, t-rex, the result is something very cool.

*awaits lordathestrings next racial slur*

Again, 2 cents from me- I don't know if I like to say this band is better than this band, because people have said they've liked bands I've been in and others have said my bands have um... what's that thing you do with a straw? ;)

Oasis, even acknowledges that they borrow heavily from the beatles because of the respect that they have for the beatles and that they want kids to look into their influences. Let's be honest, if you heard I am the Walrus on the radio today, only older people will know what it is, but if a band like Oasis gives it a nod because they dig the beatles, then that's one more band kids may listen to that they wouldn't have otherwise. I used to hate the Beatles until I heard U2's cover of helter skelter which prompted me to look into Revolver and the White Album, and those are 2 of my favorite records today... anyway, just a thought.

peace

It just bugs me when people take great offense at others, younger people in particular, not 'appreciating' bands like the beatles or guys like Hendrix.

Im sorry but the beatles, and hendrix, are from completely different eras. Whereas oasis are a band Ive grown up on. They have influenced me far greater than the beatles. Hendrix is about the thee most dissimilar guitarist to me. Hes had no influence on me what so ever. I dont like his stuff.. its dated.. it sounds ok on car adverts but thats it. Even going by the way older musci was recorded... perhaps if bands like the beatles could re-record their hits in a modern way then Id like them but the overall tone of beatles and hendrix stuff sounds very dated.

Im going to see Oasis this summer!!

I thought Oasis were only big in the UK... do you USA guys know who we are talking about?!

Oasis is a great band- I kinda thought Blur were a little catchier, but I dig Oasis!

You are right though, the Beatles and Hendrix do sound somewhat dated, but it's not like they're worthless- old guys like me usually just don't want people being like "your music sucked!" It's all a measure of taste, but Oasis man, hell my band does Don't look back in anger sometimes just for kicks. I kinda like how they sneak in snippets from beatles tunes- like Champagne Supernova has a borrowed phrase from Hey Jude, and they even throw a nod to Derek and the Dominoes in there with the bird noise at the end of the song.

uh... I forgot where this was going... um... but the short end of it is that Oasis rocks.

They sound fresh for about 30 seconds, then the copying becomes apparent, and it gets very tired, very quickly, after that. Too clever by half. Exalting plagiarism is not cool - it's shallow.

If you can't cope with a bit of rough handling from a clansman, you shouldn't invite abuse.

For you the copying becomes apparent and thus isnt fresh. But for peopl like me who grow up on them the band are anything but boring. They are very similar to the beatles, Ive often said, even on here, how they have taken copying a bit far. But that doesnt mean the music they have isnt good.

And as for clansmanship. Shut up. Your mocking my country. Its not lighthearted, your doing it to antagonise me.

*sighs*

I dont even know what the what the point to this whole discussion is anymore.

Ive seen that led zep article before.

Oasis have copied the heck outa other bands. Its a fact. Theres no band I know of that have done it as much as oasis have. But that doesnt affect my opinion of their music. So what if 'Dont look back in anger' is the same chord progression as 'Let it be'. Both are great songs. And I prefer the modern Oasis one simply because it sounds modern.

Its like people who dont believe in the national lottery... cos its gambling... what about the fact that it gives a large amount to charity? Just because the process is flawed doesnt mean the product is. Oasis produce great music... so what if they used a little help along the way!

Would you kill a chicken to save 2 from dying?

Axl im with you....well its whatever u feel. If u listen to music and u like it CANT BE BAD MUSIC but it can not be for everyone. Now if u tend to measure music on certian critera than thats something else. By the way...i cant see Lordofthestrings saying anything bad about anything so maybe we all need to take a breath before we respond or else general respect goes down and i might as well go to a smut forum :) . Anyways i like oasis, hendrix is still awesome on many different planes and SRV is better!

my 2 cents
WWSD? What would stevie do?

Heh, shes going to Port Townsend with 9 others from Scotland to put on some theatre show. Then the idea is that 10 from Port Townsend come over here and do the same next year.

Shes in the main acting group in Europe so they do cheesy shows abraod and stuff like that.

Am gona miss her like heck :( Im taking her out in St Andrews (posh town in Scotland near where I live) for dinner then she flies to the states the next day

To make matters worse Im currently AMPLESS!! Well, I need a cab for my marshall! So I cant play guitar either!

oh no! skinhead and neo-nazi aren't automatically synonomous- anyone heard of SHARPS? The original skins were very much into reggae and ska. Anyway, random tangent, no harm, no foul.

Well Oasis were/are massive in the UK and rightly so. Yea back in school people were into imports like Greenday and Nirvana, but take your average UK teenager in the 90s, and they'll know most of the lyrics to this band. They were a band that even girls really got into.

They did a cool show with Jools Holland a couple of years back, watch that then tell me they cant sing or write.

Im going to see them in May :)
