I've been playing guitar for two years or so. Until recently, I've been playing a lot of blues and the like. Then I played some metal (ozzy, iron maiden, etc). Now I'm trying some hendrix and I figured I should get a wah. I've figured out how to do the basics, but a lot of sounds I assume are comin from the wah in many different songs I just can't get. Any advice? (tricks, places to learn, etc). thanks.

my humble advice is to not rock the wah back and forth with the tempo of the song. Everybody does just that and it's a little tiring to hear any more. If you watch and listen to Jimi he uses it as a filter quite a bit...finds a 'sweet' spot and then slowly manipulates the pedal around that spot. you can use it to control feedback that way for really cool feedback solos...that's how I use it most often. Just my $0.02 ;-)

There is 2 ways to connect the wah.

One is were u have your wah first and then in to your dis. pedal. Like this:
guitar -- wah -- dis. -- amp.

and the other (jimi used, I think)
guitar -- dis. -- wah -- amp.
