What's Rattling?
My new Pro Junior amp is making an annoying rattle. I just got it last week and it's been rattling since day one. Only rattles when i hit a note. What's the diagnosis?

Can you provide a sound file as an example.?

no, i cant provide a sound clip. it sounds like some kind of vibration of some sort coming from a tube. I was reading the reviews on Harmony Central and i came across a few that spoke of similar problems. This is my first tube amp and I'm not really handy when it comes to repairing stuff like this. Should i just call the store i bought it from (last week) and ask them to replace or fix it?

Be careful about this - tubes are hot, and have lethal voltages on them!
Use a plastic chopstick, a light drumstick, or a large drinking straw to gently tap on the tubes, one at a time. If one of them is 'micrphonic', you will hear noises coming from the speaker. Do NOT use anything heavy or metalic to tap the tubes, as you could damage the tubes and/or hurt yourself.
All tubes are very slightly microphonic, but my guess is that one of yours is excessive.

Check those spring retainers on the power tubes, they are infamous for rattle, could be the spring or that little metal plate that holds the tubes......

It's hard to say tho...
My old SuperReverb had a rattle that I couldn't find for 10 years. I noticed it when I bought it and figured I could get rid of it but nothing worked.
Then I forgot about it and didn't notice it anymore.
Ten years later I went to sell it and one guy showed up at my house who'd happened to hear me play at some gigs in town.
He said "oh.. that's the amp that has that really annoying rattle in it".
Suprised the crap outa me cause I didn't even notice it anymore.
Far as I could figure is that it was something in the construction of the actual wood casing. Like a bad joint or something.

If the amp is still under warranty, it may as well be someone else! :)
