What would you reccomend as an effect pedal that would give a good classic rock sound like from led zeppelin, boston the who and other bands like that

That's really hard since the three bands you listed sound completely different.

Boston- I use a Limiter, Metal type distortion, JC-120 pre amp simulator, reletively flat EQ with some pumped low-mid and really kick up the level (this adds that extra Boston feel), Stereo Chorus and plenty of "plate" type reverb. Also need some delay in and out. This all requires an extra notch on the noise supressor. Guitar with humbuckers.
OR I will place a power soak on the amp and run the other none overdrive (OD) effects.

Who - Split the coils on a humbucker or I prefer to switch to one of my single coil guitars at the neck position. For most parts, I use mostly a clean setup and get the drive from my tube amps.

Zep - Humbuckers. Mostly drive from the amps but add some Marshall amp sim in conjunction with that.

You're looking at adding lots of gear or a very good multi-effect pedal. Boos has a new GT-8 that will release soon. It's available in Japan now.
I once thought a "Sweeping Arpeggio" was an Italian janitor.
