Cables into your desk from say an mic are normal instrument cables, as are the cables going from your desk to the power amp.

The cables going from your power amp to the speakers are speaker cables and are NOT the same as instrument cables as they are of a different impedance.

The ends of the cable will depend on the input and out put sockets on the bits of kit. Where possible use "balanced" XLR cables as they are hum rejecting.

A multi core is also a good idea. Remember to keep your audio cables uncoiled when in use and away from power cables as this can also cause hum.

Unless you're made of money.....
If you are any good with a soldering iron, you can always make your own (heaven knows you'll be repairing the store bought ones down the road). Purchase grey insulator cable for speaker wire, black for everything else. It's easy to tell them apart (and tell others how to), and you can make them the length you want, keeping clutter down. Parts Express used to have the heavy 1 and 2 conductor cable and the quality plugs but you can get great stuff about anywhere. I haven't had to buy any now (with the exception of Midi) for 7+years.
I once thought a "Sweeping Arpeggio" was an Italian janitor.
