What to wear?

mods, feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place

As my band gets closer to playing "real" gigs, I'm left contemplating what to wear for the show's. I'm completely ignorant when it comes to this kind of stuff. Here's a little background if it will help. The name of the band is Big Daddy Green. We play somewhat heavey stuff in the vein of Godsmack, AIC, Ozzy, and G'N'R. I'm a fairly large guy at 5'9" 280lb.'s



I'm not looking to get all dressed up, just looking for some pointers. Thanks

BTW, wish me luck for New years. We're going to be playing at some big party. No money involved, just for practice/fun.

that's not the point. I just don't want to look like a goof infront of 100 or so people.

Wear the deer head as a helmet.

[font=trebuchet ms]Jeans - OK. White Tee - you can do better.

My personal fave is a black T-shirt emblazoned with [font=copperplate gothic bold]Bikers Eat Their Dead[/font].

It tends to reduce the heckling.[/font] ;)

Try a loose fitting white shirt and some kind of long dark jacket left open.
It'll be a little warm and uncomfortable on the arms but it's a lot more slimming than spandex pants and a snake skin t-shirt.
If you sing, you might consider getting a headset mic with a headband.
Once you get under hot lights, you'll be glad you have something to stop the sweat from getting in your eyes.
And if you haven't perfected your 'guitar face' yet, or aren't comfortable in front of an audience, get some sunglasses to hide your eyes.

Long Johns, knee high rubber boots and a fireman's helmet.......

Hell,a wife beater and jeans look fine...some kind of chain/necklace and a chain/bracelet(on your left hand)would work well.A regular black sweatband/armband would look neat on your right hand.Boots go well with jeans and sneakers go well with all other pants(like cargo's e.c.t).

Remember your going to be behind your guitar,so try to make contrast with it(your clothes in the pic do.)

Also,dont be afraid to wear your favorite 'band' shirt...people take intrest in what bands other band members like.bands,bands,bands!AHHH!

Why should you wear different things on stage than in normal life? Any need to pose...?

That's turning this into something that it's not about.

All I asked for were some tips on what to wear for a show. Not whether someone should or should not dress different or whatever. Not whether someone should dress to impress on stage. And certainly not what to wear to try to be someone that I'm not.

I have a friend who did an encore in a big canvas Shark costume !
Very Silly !!! Mind you he had a lot of professional gigs under his belt and the show had just gone out live on BBC Radio !

Me, I'd think comfort and practical rather than "looks stunning".

Shades look cool but if they stop you from seeing what you are doing and cause you to trip over the bass player, thats bad !!!

I once plaid a gig where our bass player trampled all the pyroes before they were set off. That was bad !

Are you going to jump about a lot ?

If so cowboy boots are not a good idea and sneakers or baseball boots are very good.

Remember any fool can dress up in a Tutu and Mickey mouse ears (ever see the Cheech and Chong film with the battle of the bands ?) however IMHO it is better to play well and come off as being professional (like not screwing about between songs, not drawing your set out too long, not getting pissed before going on stage etc ).

I agree. What would be super cool would be a band that all dressed alike, just like in the 50s, with matching suits (preferably black, or some other dark colour), big hair, band name on the bass drum, playing heavy metal.

Sweet! I love that site. I just ordered 4 shirts...lol Unfortunately they wont be here for 2-3 more weeks.

Ok, easy man, my post wasn´t meant to set you up... and I porbably misunderstood your intention. I just don´t like those like yngwie or the guys from manowar or maiden, who wear leather uniforms on stage, and that is for me something they might not be in real life and also an intention to pose.
