hey guys, i've been playing guitar for a long time and own several and I often find that even on my new guitars when I tune using traditional methods or even tuners the b string will be out of tune, chord to chord. That is, if I tune to an E major chord (open)and get it sounding good, the b string will sound out of tune when I play the D major open chord. Is this purely a setup problem? Any idea why it's so common?

Have a search for "well tempered tuning".

Unless you have a Buzz Feitin (Sic) tuning system I think, like the rest of us, you will have compromise !!
My instructors page and www.studiotrax.net for all things recording.
