Go to device manager to see if your onboard sound is working properly(click on control panel,performance and maintenance,system,hardware,and then device manager).Youll see a list of hardware stuff...click on the little speaker icon(near the bottom mabey)and check all the sub-genre choices.

Of course the above only works in winXP(I think).
