Have you been using 4X12 cabs? In general, yes, a 2X12 cab is a lot. I use a Line6 AX 2X12 and I can't go higher than "4" without blowing everybody away...even live. You could also go with 2 2X12 cabs ... one open back and one closed (I think the Legacy cabs can even be used both open and closed if I'm not mistaken) for somewhat of a half stack sound though the low end will not be the same. But as far as projection goes I see no problem. You can get a 4X12 cab for that money though (or close to it) if you're worried about that.
