hi, this is something that me and my chums have had much debate about over the past few days and that is the album of this year. now i'm not a fan of modern bands as i believe they all sound the same, so needless to say that the lastest Greenday album isn't knockin on the doors of my Judas Priest or classic Metallica albums ( Pre load, reload, St.anger etc......) back in the day when they were still trend setters in music rather than detuning in an attempt to sound like S.O.A.D or Limp Bizkit. However i have found myself srtongly backing the 'End of heartache' by Killswitch Engage as my album of the year, which I have had some disagreement. i find that the simplicity, and the sheer aggression of their riffs as brilliant and really love the album. So what is the general thoughts, feelings and opinions from fellow guitarists as to their album of the year.

Although it's not a guitar driven albumn I would have to say that William Shatner's ( yeah the Star Trek guy) new albumn "Hasbeen" is the best albumn I have heard since STP came out with "Purple". It is actually good all the way through with several standout tracks like "Hasbeen" and "Common People". You won't believe how good it is till you here it. I know I can't believe I like a Shatner albumn either.

"End of Heartache" is definately up there for me, but i liked "Alive or just Breathing" a bit better. I tihnk its cuz of the singer...the new guy isnt bad, but i like the previous one more. Along with that album, I'd include: "The War Within" by Shadows Fall, "Vol. 3..." by Slipknot, and "South Side Double-Wide Acoustic Live" by Sevendust.

My vote for Album of the year (2004) has most definately got to go to Velvet Revolver - Contraband. Not only does that album kick ass, and is one of those kind that you can just pop in and listen to every track. It has put one of my favorite guitarists (slash), back in the limelight. I look forward to their sophomore album, as well as checking out these living legends live in concert.

mmmm, for me it's the new singer who has really added that something extra to the band, because before, in my opinion, they just had no structure to the vocals and it was just noise, although the new guy screams but he has a softer more mellow side to his signing which i think has allowed the band to be more creative and experimental with this new album.

I think album of the year would have to go to Balck Label Society's Hangover Music. This album shows the incredible versitility Zakk Wylde. Also Shadows Fall The War Within in is great. I saw them live a few days ago and was stunned at the talent of these two guitarist.

contraband all the way. Velvet Revolver is so awesome. and Slash is one of my fsvorite guitarists.

Somebody should've made this into a poll. But I'd say Contraband would win easily. It almost (dare I say it) gives me hope that the music industry will turn around if good music gets popular again.

Who cares if our music becomes popular again. I wouldn't want it being overplayed on popular stations and being exploited like grunge was in the 90's. MTV almost ruined grunge, I think rock fans are rock fans because its different than the homos that magically love all the poppy songs played on pop stations and MTV.

I guess I never thought of it like that. It just burns me that people aren't more discriminating with their musical diets.
