My amp is a weapon of mas DISTORTION!!!!
new gear
I was thinking about buying some sort of recording equipment just for my own purposes at home. all i need it for is to record some riffs and possibly some backing tracks of my own. Just wanted to know what would be the best thing for my home purposes.

Well if you want to do just guitar then something like a Korg PRX4 or a Tascam 424mk III is probably a good place to start.
What is your budget ? Both of the above retail at about 300 new and each will do things the other can't.

my budget would be about Ā£250-300. do they enable me to add more than one guitar sound to a recording?

Do you mean re-amping (changing the tone of the track you have laid down like from a clean fender tweed to an over driven Boogie) or do you mean playing back two separate guitar parts that were recorded at a different time (overdubbing) ?
Both are possible with either however you will need a pod or something to re-amp with the tascam. Re-amping is not such a good idea with an analogue recorder as with every bounce you lose quality.
