Left Hand Sweeping

When doing a sweep, how is the left hand supposed to mute the strings?

I try doing by just lifting my fingers so they're barely touching the strings, but I'm not sure if this is right.

Your doing it right by lifting your finger off the fret enough to mute it. That was the hardest thing for me to get when learning how to sweep. There is a lot of precision in sweeping.
