Alright Lads,
I need to find out what is the best guitar and pickups for a hard rock/ heavy metal player? I like playing AC/DC and Metallica and sometimes maybe blues but not that much. For a guitar i have around £400 british pounds which is about $700 U.S dollars. And would like to know what is the best guitar for that price.

Lastly what are the best pickups for hard rock/ heavy metal. EMG, Dimarzio, Seymour Duncan? Please i need help!

Cheers. :D

You could shoot for a second hand Jackson (I just got a DKMG on ebay for 400 USD).

As far as which is the best for you, well you will just have to suck em and see. If you are in the UK you might want to check out Gorden Smith Guitars (excellent) or LAG. Phil Campbell of Motrohead fame uses Lag and I know they are nice axes form personal experience. Over-water are another UK based company and they also make really nice axes.

You might want to look for a PRS Santana. I haven't played then but I have a PRS CE24 ($ 2500 sticker price) and it is just fantastic !

You should be able to get an idea of what stuff is going for by checking out some of the UK online guitar stores like www.piedog.com

My Jackson has EMG Hz PUs on it (with the +20 db boost thing) and I hate them ! Next to the CE24 or the LP it just sounds thin and watery !

However in defense of the Jackson its neck is lovely !

To be honest if you want the best bang for your bucks go second hand.

Yes there is an element of risk however that is the price you pay.

I have had two guitars via eBay one was a beauty and the other was OK.

Many of the people who sell on the US eBay will ship internationally.

As the pound is really string vs the dollar at the moment you will be able to pick up some real bargains for not many quids !!

I would recommend a Cort Katana with stock pickups or a Cort G250+ with DiMarzio X2N bridge and your choice of hot singles.

Not another one of these. Any guitar will do for what you wanna play. Hell you could slap a dimarzio on a slab of wood with a cheap neck and it would play rock well... It all boils down to one thing.... FEEL. If you like the way it hangs, the way the neck fits your hand, and you feel good playing it... then it's the right guitar for you... 700 bucks can buy a whole lotta different kinds of guitars, so just get out there and play them...
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?
