Ok, it seems when I get going on tapping or playing legato in general the notes start to get quieter and quieter to the point where I'd swear I forgot to turn my amp on. Should I have the volume up louder or am I just not hitting the notes hard enough or what? This is mainly when I'm doing left hand legato works and is a bit more scarce with my right hand tapping and particularly shows up when I go higher up on the neck.

A compressor will help too. Try lowering the string height a little. Use a hair braid around the open strings to you don't have to worry about muting them.

More volume, more distortion. It actually helps.
Use all your pickups, that can also help.

Alrighty, I thank you all for the tips and suggestions and have found them to work (well, most of them anyway). Thanks.
