I've seen lists of "Favorites", but i have never seen people state the overall best Metal singer. I would have to pick Mike Patton, from Faith No More, and Mr Bungle ( also appears in Dillinger Escape Plan). He can do so many things with his voice, and has pretty good range.

How about you guys?

I have to go with either Chris Cornell or Layne Staley. Both have/had the strongest voices......

I consider Soundgarden Metal... they are quite heavy at times.

I saw the name of the poster and was like "hmmm, I bet he's gonna say James Hetfield!" Well, I happen to disagree there. James is kind of a one-trick pony when it comes to vocals. He's certainly not like Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden. That guy has not only strong, vibrant vocals, but KILLER vibrato and a falsetto that can kill a man where he stands!

Soundgarden is/was definately metal......even though they got caught up in the whole Seattle grunge scene. That was just timing though.

So is Reel Big Fish. At times.

Having "heavy stuff" in and of itself does not make something Metal. If that were the case, we could lump Ben Harper right in with Carcass, Linkin Park, The Aquabats! and Iron Maiden.

There's no doubt that the influence is there, but both Soundgarden and Alice in Chains branched decisively away from what can be reasonibly called "Metal."

Hetfield used to be the sh*t!....back in the day...but after the black album, i think he lost his balls! Can't stand the way he sings anymore! As for some modern bands...Maynard J Keenan (Tool), Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold) are all badasses!

I don't consider Axl to be metal either while we're at it. Gotta go with Rob Halford or Bruce Dickenson. They have the quintessential metal voices.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.
