Anyone here attending MI in Hollywood? I'm starting the recording program there in two weeks, just wanted to see if anyone else had even heard of the place. Long shot, perhaps.

Only ever heard of Berklee, GIT, and Julliard. Lemme know how it goes.

GIT is one of the 6 or 7 programs at MI, they also have BIT (bass) KIT (keyboard) VIT (vocals) PIT (percussion), etc.

Ahh, so GIT in LA, is really just a division of MI in Hollywood?
Same building/campus?

Yeah its all in one big building. I feel like I've heard of another program called GIT or guitar workshop or something, but i can't remember, this is the only GIT i know of.

I've never heard of the place, though just by the name, it sounds like it'd be a really good learning experience. Is the main focus of this institute to help people get better at playing music and to help with skills? Or...am I off in space? Sorry for my uninformed question, but yes, just by the sound of it, it sounds like a cool place.

Yeah its a full on music school, you earn a bachelor's in music if you do the degree program or else a Journeyman certificate. The programs are pretty separate but I get to work with everyone in the RIT program cuz I need to record people and everyone else needs to be recorded for assignments in their program. check out www.mi.edu for details.

and take a look at the visiting artists that give seminars and concerts, i mean holy crap!! http://www.mi.edu/contentmanager/events/default.php

thanks bob, thats the plan. i'm gonna sitting in front of that huuuuuge SSL console all night recording everything that comes in the door. hell, i'll record someone farting into the mic and turn it into a series of explosion blast FX.

That is quite a list of musicians, it sounds like going to the institution would be quite the experience as well as much fun.

I attened the open house last summer, it seems like a great place to learn, with all thouse musicians and that enviroment seems swell, and you can even room up with Dream Theater :) (Derek Sherinian was looking for a roomate when i was there, he is a teacher, or was for a while there.)
