Well put, he always struck me as the kind of person would say "no" and "down" if you said "yes" and "up". Nothing wrong with being disagreeable but, like you said, no cohesive arguments coupled with a personality that was easily frustrated.

Well, in light of the recent unplesentrys here is my take on the situation regarding flaming / offensive posts and and the use of profanity.

Agree with me / disagree with me (or any one else) I respect your right to an opinion. If you have a strong argument, well make it and prove me wrong, nothing I enjoy more than a good argument even if I end up looking like an ass (anodes caugh caugh!)! I am older and wiser for the experience. I am also aware that some opinions are a lot more robust and well thought out than others. let the week ones be shown to be week and learn from the experience !

As far as flaming goes well personally I don't care what people think of me, flame me as much as you like, see if I care. I can garnet you I wont lose a moments sleep over being flamed.

However, this board is about more than old doc Simon (thank God !). Flaming only detracts from the issue of an argument and at this point it is nothing more than spam.

Other people will take it personally at which point it becomes offensive and well we can't have that either and rather than have the GT forum turning into a recruiting ground for nazi guitarists, so people get moderated.

The GT rules are not there to provide a power-trip for moderators they are there to make this sight as good as it can be !

So, argue a way as passionately as you like, but do keep to the rules and guidelines in Schmanges sticky ! They are there to make this a sight where people can voice there opinions, argue and learn with out people getting all upset !

Profanity, well that is something else I don't personally care about and I doubt anyone will learn any new words on this forum net nanny or no, however as there are minors here and we don't ant to be labeled pornographic, which in-turn will lead to less hits, less advertising revenue etc etc, it is edited.

Hey I'm not saying this is the party line this is just my take on things !!!

If you look at the state of Homerecording.com where they have very little moderation, both threads and forums have a tendency to degenerated into a war zone. All it takes is one person to start with...bla bla bla and you suck and bla bla bla

which is responded to with nothing but insults and the issue...is lost in the spam !

At the moment the microphone forum is closed due to people just flaming each other !
