I'd bet nobody can answer that. I've heard so many DT bootlegs that I don't even know how many I've heard. There are a lot out there. One of my favorites is when they covered the entire Metallica, Master Of Puppets album.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that life is one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead.
Rock stars ... is there anything they don't know?

Dream Theater is a Prog Metal Band featuring Mike Portnoy on drums and John Petrucci on guitar. They're ok, and Petrucci's excellent on the guitar.

Pertucci is awesome, and they are a great badn, although there newest cd is kinda boring.

I don't know if I would go so far as to call them great. They are a good band, but very little other than Petrucci's playing is what I would call excellent. The vocals are good, but they're not David Bowie or anything. The piano is amazing, but great? I think Thelonius Monk, Vince Guaraldi, or Ray Charles when I think of piano greats. Mike Portnoy is definitely above average, but Keith Moon he is not. Great bands are pretty rare, and usually they're great because they either A. Invented something new (Pink Floyd), or B. Wrote songs in their genre clearly above and beyond the others (Bach).

I can't agree with that. Dream Theater is great. Every member of DT is a master of their instrument. I'm not much on the vocals, but James has some pipes. As for the piano/keyboards, Jordan Rudess attended Juliard at the age of 9 (or was it age 11?), anyway, he's a prodigy with keys. Have you really listened to DT? or have you just heard the few select songs they play on the radio, like Peruvian Skies? Check out Metropolis Pt. 1, Under A Glass Moon, The Dance Of Eternity, A Change Of Seasons, Erotomania, and the entire Metropolis Pt. 2 album. These guys are in a league of their own.

Okay, I've been thinking about my last response concerning whether Dream Theater is great........It depends on the way you look at it. DT is great when it comes to talent, musicianship, etc....but they haven't created something new like Pink Floyd, so in the music world to the average listener, no, they are not great. Now let me mention someone different, Frank Zappa. He was Great with a capital G......but most people just don't get his music and don't like it, kind of like Dream Theater. Both DT and Frank Zappa pretty much produced music that only musicians can understand, relate to, and enjoy.

I just think its hard to find a group of guys who gel so well together and can make such talented music. Yeah it was the age of 9 that Ruddess attended Juliard.
Labrie has some pipes but I think Mike Patton is definatley the best singer of Metal/Rock, or Check out Ofra Haza, a middle easter singer, she has got one hell of a voice.
