One of the reasons I've been using alot of effects was to cover my ass in case I hit wrong notes (they tend to sound 'artistically intentional'). But I guess I'll just have to sit down and work on my chops and skills to improve my playing.

Thanks guys for your comments and welcome. I think I'm going to take finger_cruncher's advice and try to simplify my rigs. Just the other day I was reading the article titled 'How to play live better' (in the Guitarist or one of them UK magazines) and the first tip was to simplify your effects loop to prevent any potential onstage disasters.
