wow... thanks for the response! Let me try and think of an intelligent reply..

Well first of all, thanks again, I have a descent understanding of modes now (I think). So essentially modes are just scales. In the example below, the key is in C, so the notes used are CDEFGAB. By starting on a different note and remaining within the confines of those seven notes, you create different patterns of whole/half steps, which give the unique sound. Am I on the ball? My next question would be, are there any diagrams of the entire fretboard and all the patterns of some different scales? I've found one for the pentatonic, and it was incredibly usefull.
