Depends entirely on what it's going to be used for. If you plan on doing gigs you'll probably want an amp, but for practice a good acoustic is always worth having. It's also much easier to find nice sounding acoustics in the lower price range than it is amps in most places. It also depends on if you're in a band or not, acoustics have a hard time cutting through drums and the like.
