The RP80

The RP100

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040810114008068081108225693384/g=guitar/search/detail/base_pid/150172/

After looking around for awhile, these two seem like the best bet-I'm not gonna be using this pedal for gigs or anything, just to mess around with on my own, and I wanted to get something cheap, like $100 max. I know I could get way nicer pedals, but for not spending too much money, these seem like a good bet. Any recommendations on either one? They're pretty much the same, except the RP80 has an expression pedal, which is probably better to have than the RP100, which doesn't have it at all. But I'll admit, when it comes to effects pedals, I don't know too much. So, thoughts? thanks

In the link you posted , they say the rp100 was discontinued.

Anyways , even if the rp100 had a couple of more effects , an expression pedal is still very important ... The rp80 wins.

I don't have experience with these specific two pedals , but from what I hear is that they're very good for the money .... But if you could find a higher end model (Digitech GNX or a Boss) 2nd hand for a low prize that you can afford , that would be much better.

I have had a GNX2 for the last year or 2 years or so and Im going off digitech rapidly.

Boss do make the odd really crappy stomp box (like the GP-20) however most are OK though I haven't tried there multiFX boards.

Boss have a reputation for building indestructible pedals so there is probably not too much risk going second hand !

I also think they sound nicer than Digitech.

I'd go for second hand Boss kit.

I've used the RP-80, and I wasn't too impressed. However, I owned an RP-200 for a couple years, and it served me quite well. I've recently made the switch to a Boss ME-50, and I like it much more. In my opinion, it sounds more natural as opposed to Digitech more synthetic-sounding tone.

Don't get me wrong, though, that RP-200 did have a great tone, and there's one or two patches I created on it that I wish I could match with this Boss pedal. I suggest dishing out a little bit more cash and picking up an RP-200 over either the 80 or the 100.

berndawg if you do end up getting any of the Digitech pedals can you do a review here? I have been thinking of getting a RP-200 but haven't decided yet. I haven't had a chance to really sit down and demo one yet with my own equipment so I'm still a little hesitant. TheDirt's opinion seems to be the norm for comments on the RP line but like you I'm limited on funds right now.
Jimmie showed me alot of stuff, but there was a time when he warned, 'If you ask me to show you anything again, I'll kick your ass.' Well, I did and he did. - SRV

Something to remember is that if you get stuff from a place like music123.com you have the option of returning it up to 45 days later. This gives you the chance to really check stuff out !

thanks for all the replies...I looked on ebay, and some that were mentioned, like Boss, were still just way out of my budget. I found some good deals on a Digitech RP200 and 300 though, probably gonna go with the 200 cuz it's cheaper and not all that different from the 300 really...but thanks, I'm gonna keep looking

I have a RP50. Some of the fx are useable but don't think it is a solution for all your fx needs. The delay and chorus are fair but the distortion is really bad. I don't use this RP50 much because the sound quality is not that great. For the $50 I paid it is ok. I wouldn't get the 80 simply because the extra $$$ don't make it sound any better.

Once you get it and fool around with it for a couple weeks, post telling everyone how you like it. User reviews are some of the most helpful Gear-related posts that there are.
