just bought a guitar from a coworker. Ibanez RG550 with Ibanez Professional Deluxe hard case. the guitar had seen some serious neglect, but after a weekend of cleaning up and restringing, it looks and plays great. it has a candy apple red body with matching tilt head stock, maple neck, black pickguard, humbucker pickup at the neck with S1 on it, single coil mid, and humbucker at bridge with S2 on it. serial# F 053891. anybody have any idea on the year? good deal, fair deal? any help is appreciated.

I'm no Ibanes expert however there was an RG500 on eBay "excel ant condition" with a "buy me now" tag of 400 USD (plus ~30 shipping).

The case new comes in at about 100 USD so 2nd hand about 50.

If it required extra work + strings etc I'd say 300 was a fair price for both.

rereading my post (should have previewed it first!), i got the pickups wrong: the neck pickup has V1 on it and the bridge has V2. i paid $200.00 for the guitar and case. i've seen other Ibanez RG550's with V7 and V8 pickups but don't know the significance of those pickups.

200 sounds good, however the only thing that really matters is that it sound good to you and that you enjoy playing it !!

The V-series pickups are made for Ibanez by DiMarzio. I don't know the specs on them. For $200 + some cleanup & strings, I'd say you did well. Enjoy!
