playing scales fingerstyle

Has anyone got any tips for practising scales fingerstyle, or with thumbpick/fingers? Does anyone here use the method alternating thumb/indexfinger, like I do? Or have you got any other tips on techniques I should try ?

Classical players use there index and middle finger, and alternate them to pluck the strings. They should move back and forth as if they were "walking". That's a basic explanation. Classical technique is more complicated than it seems, and I still say there's no substitute for a real teacher.
