I'm fairly a good and fast player and i've been playing for quite a year.. i can pick up thing quite easily.. The problem for me is that i can't remember songs. When i look at a tab, i can play it fairly easily but later i just forget everything.. So what am saying is that i can't play full songs. Everything i do is only the intro of tons of songs... how the heck should i practice learning the full songs.

thx

The way I memorize songs is by playing the whole thing over and over again. I also carry around a notebook with songs that I don't have up in my brain. I just keep it in my guitar case, and that ensures I can always whip it out and play a couple of tunes that I don't have quite memorized yet.

Perhaps an explanation as to why repetition works. Everyone knows what memory is. When your brain stores information that has already occured. Muscle memory is basically the same. By repeating the song over and over, eventually you can play it while watching TV, singing, or showering (NOTE: Use an acoustic if you plan on doing this!!!). The muscles in your fingers will remember the movements.

or guys....

I know there's good harmonics in bathrooms, but I think taking your beloved (not talking about a chick) into the shower is a little too much *embraces guitar*.

i sympathise completely...me and my family alike have the memory of a piece of soggy toast. My advice is play stuff you know and like because it's sticks in your memory better. However i never have any trouble remembering stuff i write myself. So relate the tab to own material or visualise the lyrics instead. For example i have a clear visual image of the song War Pigs by Sabbath...as a result i can remember the full song tab and all.

Concentrate on one song, as long as it takes you to learn it in its entirety. Then after you have learned it, play it every couple of days. That will burn it into your brain. Other than that, see your doctor, you may have ADD or something that is preventing your brain from memorizing things.
