I have a video of them doing the song and Steven Tyler is singing. However somebody once told me that Joe Perry sings the original(on the record) and then Steven Tyler comes in at the end with his usual screaming. Is this true? Cuz if it is, then Joe Perry is a good singer and would probably explain why it is the only Aerosmith song that I like.

I had heard that the reason the voice sounds different is that Steven Tyler was shy about his singing voice in the beginning and on the first album, but later on he gained more confidence and changed his style to the screeching we know know and [sarcasm]love[/sarcasm].
... and that's all I have to say about that.

I think it's steve tyler on both .
Lots of singers sound pretty different on their debutes than later on ... Metallica's James Hetfield for example.

Well this guy that told me said he saw them in concert and the guitar player ( he didn't know his name, he's not a big fan of Aerosmith ) was singing.

According to this (songfacts.com link), it is Steve Tyler singing. However, apparently Joe Perry does sing in concert, so I wouldn't rule out the fact that Joe Perry did at one time sing "Dream On" live.

There were some funny facts on the songfacts.com site about Aerosmith, like

 • Ronnie James Dio sang this on the album Aerosmith Tribute: Not The Same Old Song & Dance (released September 7, 1999). Yngwie Johann Malmsteen played the guitar part - It's what you'd expect, a million notes per minute.

 • In the 1970's, Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia called the band the druggiest people he'd ever seen.

 • Aerosmith appear in the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as the FVB (Future Villain Band). It is considered one of the worst movies ever, but they got to kill the Bee Gees.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

I'm guessing most of you never heard Joe Perry's solo album, Joe Perry Project, Let the Music Do the Talking, from about 1981 or so, well Joe Perry sounds nothing like Steven Tyler, I guess it's possible that he sang Dream On, onstage, but the original is Steven Tyler all the way, what might be impossible is for Joe to get Steven to shut up long enough to sing one verse of Dream On, ............. Really Amazing Song Fact, Steven Tyler wrote Dream On when he was 17...........
